OUR ACADEMIC FOCUS
Core Education
C.O.E. Academy uses the 18 credit option for graduation as approved by the state of Florida. We will use a state approved computer-based academic program. The program provides our students the opportunity to work at their own pace, ensuring the scholastic success of our students.
C.O.E. Academy utilizes an all-inclusive, hands-on career education program. This innovative program provides rigor and relevance through experiencing a wide range of activities across high interest careers, integrating job tasks and academic skills. This program encompasses career development (advanced, intermediate, and beginning), skills training skills (basic and enhanced), and lifelong learning skills (job preparation skills and life skills). The students will be exposed to and participate in several different careers options.
Our overarching goals for students are:
Self Development programs offered at C.O.E. Academy.
Life Skills-Students learn and apply activities of daily living that enhance their ability to manage their own self-care and live independently.
Social Integration Skills- Students learn and apply skills that provide for quality-of-life enhancement. A focus on the student’s areas of interest will be the starting point in developing a plan. As a result, the student will learn how to participate more fully in relationships.
Character Building - Students learn and practice qualities, skills, and principles to develop a strong moral character to guide them throughout their lives.
Spiritual Guidance - Students will have the opportunity to enhance their character development with guidance from community leaders.
Financial Literacy - Students will learn and practice real-life financial skills such as budgeting, account management, credit building, and investing.
Vocational Skills- Students learn and apply the essential skills necessary for entering the workforce, finding appropriate employment, and maintaining that employment. Career Exploration involves investigating a student’s interests, values, beliefs, strengths, and needs in relation to the demands and other characteristics of work environments. Students are exposed briefly to a variety of work settings to help them make decisions about future career directions or occupations. Community-Based Vocational Training places the participant in various employment settings within the community for work experience, helping participants acquire the necessary skills to obtain and maintain paid employment eventually.
